iBIO Institute’s PROPEL Center Announces Business Plan Competition Winner at the 2014 Chicago Innovation Showcase
The PROPEL Center of the iBIO Institute, dedicated to increasing the number and success rate of early-stage life sciences companies in Illinois, announced on Tuesday at the 2014 Chicago Innovation Showcase that PixelEXX Systems, Inc. is the winner of the 2014 PROPEL Business Plan Competition. Over 200 community members watched Ken Bradley and Renee Carder of PixelEXX make the winning presentation to life sciences investor judges. PROPEL awarded PixelEXX a $10,000 cash prize at the end of Tuesday's event. Congratulations Ken and Renee!
PixelEXX, based at the University Technology Park at IIT, is creating the imaging systems poised to overcome the performance barriers of size, image quality, and flexibility that currently bedevil endoscopy. The proprietary PixelEXX technology delivers image sensors much smaller than is possible using other technologies, creating crisper, higher-resolution images in highly compact packages: an acknowledged need in the medical device community. Endoscopy is a dynamic and growing market in which image system advances are enabling adoption of minimally invasive diagnostic and surgical procedures.
In addition to the competition, the 2014 Chicago Innovation Showcase included an AdvaMed CEOs Unplugged panel on deal structures in med tech as well as 5 minute presentations by 15 Chicagoland companies representing Argonne National Laboratory, Chicago Innovation Mentors, Northern Illinois University, Northwestern University, PROPEL, University of Chicago and University of Illinois at Chicago. It was an exciting day to celebrate all science-based innovation occurring across Chicago.
